Alot of people ask me what separates a good pool table from a GREAT pool table.  In my opinion, it’s not the brand.  In fact, many brands that you may have heard of in the past are now making a lower quality product than many of the brands you may have never heard from. 

A couple things are critical.  First, make sure your pool table is built from SOLID WOOD.  Many tables today are constructed from a veneer covering particle board.  This has the potential to warp over time. 

Secondly, it’s always a good idea to make sure that the slate is a minimum of 1″ in thickness.  If you can find matched and registered slate, all the better.  This means the slate came from the mine in this contigous piece.  In other words, they did not make a bunch of end pieces and then match them up with a bunch of center pieces etc.  If they are matched and registered, the grain will appear the same. 

Here’s a few thoughts on buying a shuffleboard in Kansas City.  Make sure to evaluate the board you are considering closely.  Make sure that you see a minimum of a 3″ thick playing surface with large steel climatic adjusters underneath the board.

Climatic Adjusters help eliminate the potential warp that may show up in a shuffleboard over time.  They basically LOCK the board in place.  I’ll post some pictures later…….

Also, make sure that you see the finish on the surface is not brushed on.  Only the poured surfaces will last over time.  you can tell based on the thickness of the finish.  anything below a 1/4″ finish is NOT poured.

Buying a hot tub or spa in Kansas City is as difficult as it is anywhere in the US.  In todays market, the internet makes the process even more difficult.  It’s hard enough to see quality when you are standing in front of it, let alone searching through pictures on the internet.  Here are a few things to keep in mind while looking:

Avoid a buying a spa from a company that does not have a legitimate store front.  History shows us that these organizations can come and go quickly.  If they go, you will have no warranty.

Make sure the company your are evaluating is solvent.  Todays market is a scary place.  In 2009, the industry lost roughly 30% of the manufacturers that were building spas in 2008.  

Make sure the retailer you buy from maintains there own in-house service team.  It’s out of their control if they rely on contractors to complete the service work.
